Flashcard Suite requires a program called Java to run. There are three downloads of Flashcard Suite available for the Microsoft Windows environment. The two larger downloads include an internal copy of the Java program while the smallest of the three does not and you must install it manually on your machine.

What is the advantage of installing JAVA manually? Once you have installed Java, you may download the smallest version of Flashcard Suite. This does not justify the effort if you only plan to install Flashcard Suite once, but if you plan to install any updates to Flashcard Suite as they are released (which would include new features and bug fixes) it will more than pay off in the long run. In addition, many other programs besides Flashcard Suite require Java to run, as do many, many web pages .

To download Java you will need to go to the Sun Microsystems website and get the most current version of Java (which was 1.4.1_07 at the time this page was written). Once it is installed on your system, download and install the "needs separate Java install" version of Flashcard Suite (the smallest one).
